What’s New in SOLIDWORKS 2017: Clean Feature Tree

SOLIDWORKS 2017 Pre-release PR1 is available to download. There has been many enhancements to the new version which have help many users to improve their current workflow and overcome some of the earlier limitations. I’ll be sharing/explaining some of the cool enhancements which I feel would be helpful to majority of SOLIDWORKS users.

Clean Feature Tree

This is a small but yet powerful enhancement. Like other users, I used to struggle with feature tree where configuration and display state would show up making the feature tree look clustered.

But now with the new enhancement one can clean off the feature tree on just click of button. If your model has only one configuration then you can hide both configuration and display state name by selecting the option ” Do not show Configuration/Display State Names if only one exists” in the Feature Tree Display setting.

Since this is a document based property, one can set it in the templates and all new files would show up clean.

In the example above within the second image you have a part “rail (leftt…”, and “rail (right…”. Then you chose the option “Do not show Configuration/Display State Names if only one exists” in 2017 and the configuration name is removed from the part “rail” even though there are two configurations…? Is this the intended behavior?

I am running SP2 and I am seeing the same thing – just wondering if I should report this to my VAR…?

Hi Aaron, thanks for pointing the error.

I also submitted a different issue (reported under SPR 985738) related to “Do not show Configuration/Display State Names if only one exists” option.

With SP2, I’m seeing a different behavior where if would show configuration name for one instance but not for other.

So please report to your VAR and I’m also raise the issue. Thanks for your time.
